Questions drivers ask

How do I check road conditions in Iceland before I drive?
Open the app and look at the road map — roads are colour-coded by condition using data from Vegagerðin, the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration. You can zoom into your route, open the road cameras along it and see weather observations from the stations nearby. Conditions are updated through the day, so it is worth checking again just before you set off.
What do the colours on the map mean?
Green is easily passable, blue means spots of ice, amber is difficult driving, and red is impassable or closed. The app uses Vegagerðin’s own condition names, so you also see ice, snow cover, drifting snow and slush where they apply.
Where does the information come from?
Road conditions, cameras and weather observations come from Vegagerðin, and weather alerts from Veðurstofa Íslands, the Icelandic Met Office. The app is independent and is not operated by either of them. If in doubt, travel information can be confirmed by calling 1777.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no account — download the app and start using it.
Do I need several apps for roads and weather?
Færð og Veður shows road conditions, weather observations, road cameras and weather alerts in one app, so you are not switching between websites while planning a drive. For emergency assistance please call 112.
